September 23-25, 2014
The Pioneer Pipeline and Warren High school students were busy again this week. Students continued working around campus and the community. We were able to have some recreational time and leisure activities. On Tuesday the class made its way over to the Marietta YMCA where the class participated in some basketball and duck duck goose. After spending some time at the YMCA, the teachers, students, and peer mentors made their way over to McDonald’s for lunch. The focus of this was for students to verbally order their meal and pay (using actual money) for their meal. I would like my students to start using real money out in the community making purchases. We practice money on a daily basis in the classroom, but having students handle real money in a real situation is a much stronger learning opportunity. So taking the students to their favorite restaurant and buying lunch was a good learning experience for them. Due to a power outage around the Marietta community students were not able to participate in their jobs. On Thursday the students began the day by exercising in the Marietta College Recreation Center. Students learned the importance of exercising and were able to utilize the multiple workout machines the college has to offer. Now that power was restored students were able to return to their jobs. While some students were working others were enjoying the YMCA swimming pool. After swimming students met at Gillman for our daily lunch. Once the students were done with lunch we waited on the campus mall until the bus arrived. We returned to Warren High School to write in our journals about the day’s events.
