ACADEMICS
The students in this classroom are taught with the Ohio's Learning Standards - Extended for their academic needs. Monday and Wednesday are days focused on academics. Every other Friday we have visitors, the Speech Therapist and Occupational Therapist. Anna has her Orientation and Mobility coordinator visit and work with her on Thursdays. While most of our mentors are in class on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, we do have a couple mentors that pop in, throughout the morning, to help our class with school work.
College Classes
While attending Marietta College, the students in Pioneer Pipeline have the ability to attend a college class. Marietta College offers a variety of ways a student can take a class. For instance, students can take a class for credit or they can audit a class. The students gain valuable experience attending classes with their age-level peers. |
OT/SPEECH
The students in the class receive group sessions of Occupational Therapy (OT) and Speech Therapy. Ms. Carley is our Speech Therapist and Mrs. Carrie is our Occupational Therapist. While at Speech/OT the students learn how to communicate appropriately in situations, how to follow recipes, and also work on craft activities. The students love when Speech/OT have them cook food because at the end they get to eat what they made. |
Orientation and Mobility
We have a special guest on campus every Thursday morning. Anna's receives services in orientation and mobility or O&M. Her O&M coordinator is Jolene. Jolene and Anna can be found rolling around campus working on opening doors and learning to navigate in some unfamiliar places or they can be found in the Legacy Library working on accessibility with an iPad or listening to her school work through an app called Seeing Al. |
