September 16-18, 2014
It was another busy week for the Pioneer Pipeliners! The week was full of fun activities and students continuing their jobs on campus and around the community. The big highlight of this week was the students participating/supporting Alpha Xi Delta’s philanthropy event supporting autism awareness. The students were able to participate in the dunking both and decorated the mall with chalk. The class donated both time and money to the event. After spending time decorating and throwing baseballs at the dunk tank, students went in separate directions. Bryant, Chris, Josie, Jade, peer mentors, and Mr. Alexander went to the Marietta YMCA to swim. Students, peer mentors, and teacher enjoyed each other’s company and had a great time in the pool. Across campus Lauren, Anna, and Levi are hard at work. Anna continued working at Campus Life delivering mail and greeting everyone with her happy personality. Lauren was working checking books in and out of the library and showing some good independence. Levi was on patrol again this week with campus police giving tickets and keeping campus under control. Carsyn was hard at work again for his college art class. Carsyn’s class began a project where students collectively creating a piece of art. Each student is responsible for their section of the piece, the students put their pieces together to create a larger picture. Carsyn is able to showcase is talent drawing with a pencil. Carsyn also got to spend some quality time with Dr. Bauer, or his message chair. He quickly found his new place to go relax when he needs to cool down after a hard day’s work. Josie had fun participating in the autism awareness fundraiser and swimming at the YMCA, but her week wasn’t all fun and games. She had to fulfill her responsibilities at Fish’n Stuff. Her responsibilities including feeding the fish and dusting the store. All of the students spent their fair share of time in the DBRC participating in multiple activities such as basketball, racquetball, running/walking on the track, etc. I think the biggest lesson the class learned this week was the meaning of charity and supporting a cause such as autism awareness. They were able to understand that giving money or volunteering time for a cause is very important and is encouraged for all citizens in society to do. We also tried to explain to the class about individuals with disabilities and how we should accept difference between each other. Each person is different and we should be supportive to one another no matter what. We have a very fun and smart classroom environment, but it was an important lesson that should be taught multiple times in any classroom.

Social/Recreational: Bryant loves taking selfies with his mentors.
Employment: Lauren is awesome at her library job and can fulfill all of her responsibilities by herself.
Employment: Josie is also great at her pet store job as well. She likes to de-stress with basketball afterwards.
Social/Recreational: Most of the students had lunch at the dining hall this week. Levi enjoyed reading the magazine after his meal.
