Week Three
We can't believe that it is already week three. The college students are still getting their schedules adjusted and finalized, in order to be with the Pipeline students. The students can't wait for the mentors to come full time. Noah, Anna, Lakia, and Buddy are enjoying their classes. Buddy is excited everyday to come back and explain what they went over and talked about in his programming class. This week, Buddy's class was talking about inputs and outputs. Buddy was excited to come back and tell us how his professor taught them about inputs and outputs in code by making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Apparently, the professor dropped the jar of peanut butter and jelly on the ground to show how if you incorrectly enter an input or output you can mess up the code in your program.
The class also explored downtown Marietta. The students and teachers walked down to the river to see all of the sternwheelers that were in town for the Ohio River Sternwheel Festival. The festival was still being set up when the class went down but we were able to see some of the activities and food that the festival were going to be selling. The students and staff all talked about the firework show that comes with the Sternwheel Festival. It is better than the 4th of July fireworks. We ended the week with a talk from the Chief of Police at Marietta College, Jim Weaver. Chief Weaver explained how it was very important for the students to follow all of the rules in the classroom and how to be safe on campus. The students loved listening to Chief Weaver and were excited to ask some questions about being a police officer and working at Marietta College. Thanks Chief Weaver!!! |
