Today the students used their Occupational Therapy to make homemade Chili and cornbread. The boys started off working in the Harrison 3rd Floor kitchen with Susan Jahn and Audrey Reynolds. Their job was making the chili - chopping the peppers and onions, cooking the meat, measuring out the beans and tomatoes, and mixing it all up together. While the boys were upstairs, the girls spent time with their mentors in the Harrison 1st Floor Common room, while looking through the Spring 2014 Course Catalog for available Tuesday/Thursday classes that they might be interested in sitting in for next semester. When it was time to switch, the boys looked at the course catalog, and the girls headed upstairs to begin making the cornbread - counting out the holiday cupcake baking filters, measuring out the cornbread mix, corn, butter, and setting the oven for proper baking temperature and timer.
The chili and cornbread were a huge hit! The students served their mentors and had a great time enjoying the meal that they made together as a class! They students talked to their mentors about what specific classes their would be interested in, as well as what options of employment they are interested in here on the college campus and out in the community.
