December 2nd, 3rd,5th
Today was the last week for the fall semester for the Pioneer Pipeline. This week and semester was filled with ups and downs. The kids have accomplished so much and was very sad saying goodbye to their peer mentors. The peer mentors did an amazing job this semester and really worked hard. They made a big impact on these kids’ lives and this week showed. On Tuesday, the kids continued their normal routine going to work and spending time with their peer mentors. This was the last time for the semester the students would be attending their jobs. Next semester students will continue working at these jobs with possibly some more responsibilities and for longer periods of time. Wednesday we were back on Marietta College campus but for a different reason. Our class was invited to be guest speakers to Dr. Bauer’s diverse learners’ class. We discussed all of the things we have accomplished as a class and the Pioneer Pipeline Program. The students were asked questions about their peer mentors, their jobs, and their classroom at Warren High School. Some fellow peer mentors were even in the class and were nice enough to join us for lunch after class. On Thursday, the kids, peer mentors, and teachers rode the CABL bus to the Dollar Tree where the kids did some Christmas shopping. The kids used the money they earned from the pretzel fundraiser to buy gifts for their fellow classmates, peer mentors, or family members. Students will be wrapping these presents in class and will give the presents during our Christmas party the last day of school before break. After some Christmas shopping, everyone met in Harrison’s lobby for some pizza and cupcakes. Everyone got a chance to say their goodbyes. It was a very emotional day for the kids, peer mentors, and teachers. I can’t say enough how proud I am of the kids and all they have accomplished this semester. The peer mentors deserve endless praise for all their hard work. I am very excited to see what next semester has in store for these kids as they continue to work hard and grow as individuals.
